While we're collectively going through something we probably never expected to ever experience in our lifetime, there are many ways we're processing, coping, and dealing with the unknown. Some of us may be taking the time to learn something new or perhaps picking up an old hobby we simply lost touch with. Some of us may be binge-watching all of the Netflix or Hulu shows we never seemed to have time for before. Maybe we're trying to keep active and healthy both physically and mentally with yoga, at-home workouts, meditation, cooking healthier foods, etc. The important thing to remember is we're all going through this experience together, but we all feel its impact differently. Maybe it's not the same way you're choosing to get through, but try not to judge the way others are. Most importantly, don't judge yourself. Be kind to one another. Be gentle to you.
Personally, I needed a little inspiration! There's nothing that inspires me more than music and my favorite artists. I was curious about how some of them are spending their time social distancing from the world. Disconnecting? Interacting with fans? Creating? I spoke with DJ/Producer Arcando. He caught my attention when he and Daniel Garrick produced an amazing song, Fall Again, with incredible vocals by Nessa Bransan. He is constantly putting out new music, both remixes and original work, and seems to just get better and better with every song! His worth ethic is obvious, and even with lots of success, his humility is always shining though! Here is how he is spending his quarantine:
1. How are you holding up during these unpredictable times? A positive outlook and grateful perspective are crucial to staying grounded. How are you spending your time keeping a happy and healthy mind, body, and soul?
Arcando: Tbh, these times are very difficult, even though in The Netherlands (where I'm from) it's been some a couple months already.
On personal experience I can say that I try to talk with as many friends online as possible and try to do sport exercises, like running. And of course I try to be busy in my time at home, so making music is ideal for me haha. Also, I'm trying to eat as "healthy" as I can, so no ordering stuff online etc. Making your own food during these corona times is for sure another good thing to do.
2. Are you turning to art and music to keep inspired? Creating it? Enjoying it? Both? What/who has helped the most?
Arcando: I guess how I'm staying inspired is by listening a lot of new music while doing gym exercises, it kinda sets your mind free in a way. It helps to forget the stuff you have to do/stress factors - so this is ideal for when you want to really focus on the musical inspiration. As far as creating music I've had my ups and downs. I've had days these period where I feel really excited and inspired and I'm able to make a solid track ID in only a day. But, then I have some darker days where I'm in the studio, but there's no way for me to get anything written down. These so called "writers blocks" are a big pain. However, I'm always thinking, after today is a tomorrow, so let's see what the future brings. That's one of the ways how I try to stay positive.
Many people might be scared or living in fear. What is a message of encouragement you can leave them with to motivate a more peaceful mindset?
Arcando: All I can say is, the mind is a b*tch sometimes. It can be your best friend, but also your worst enemy. As I said above, try to do as many things as possible during these days, that don't necessarily include hanging out with friends or going to crowded public places. It's important to exercise and keep yourself busy. Go cook a meal, go draw or paint, go for a run, go build a website for your brand haha. Don't let your mind take over, because that's something that will easily happen if you're only staying inside and not doing anything, you know?
What are you most looking forward to when we no longer have to live our lives social distancing from one another?
Arcando: Just seeing my friends in general and going to the movies etc. I love meeting new people and going to new places so I can gain new memories. But obviously during these corona times, it's impossible to do that haha.
If you haven't already, check out my interview for Mix247EDM with Arcando, Daniel Garrick, and Nessa Bransan from 2019! In true current quarantine fashion, the interview was a virtual one, but I can only hope we can all connect someday in person! Stay safe and healthy. You're not alone. We will get through this stronger, more aware, and with far more compassion, empathy, and gratitude.
